This teen novel is a paranormal take on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Juliet is betrayed by Romeo when he trades her life for immortality offered by a group of evil immortals called the Mercenaries. As she lay dying, she is saved by an Ambassador of Light, and also made immortal. The Ambassadors are the enemies of the Mercenaries and Romeo is now Juliet's deadly nemesis. Juliet's mission is to help soul mates realize their love for each other and to get to them before Romeo is able to talk one of the soul mates into sacrificing the life of the other in exchange for joining the Mercenaries. Bound by the laws of the Ambassadors, Juliet must accomplish her task and avoid being killed by Romeo. Both of them inhabit bodies of strangers and move into different bodies with each mission. With the latest mission, Juliet inhabits the body of Ariel. She quickly realizes things are different with this mission and finds herself questioning the motives of the Ambassadors. Struggling to stick to her mission, Juliet must keep herself from falling in love with a boy who thinks he's in love with Ariel even though it's Juliet in Ariel's body.
The book has an interesting concept but the idea of Juliet helping soul mates while Romeo tries to corrupt them, is a little far fetched. Overall, I liked the book.
