Who Do You Think You Are? by Alyse Myers

This was one of those advance readers that I had laying around the house.   It wasn't very long and I was able to finish it in a few hours.  It's an autobiography about what this lady's relationship with her mother and how it made her the person she now is.  It starts out after her mother dies and Alyse is at her mom's apartment with her two sisters taking what of their mother's belongings they each want.  The only thing that she takes is a wooden box with a skull and crossbones with a lock on it that her mother hid in her closet.  She recalled that when she was 13 years old, she found the box and asked her mother what was in it and her mom said she was too young to know and that she could have the box when she was dead.  Alyse takes the box home but doesn't open it.  She wraps it in a towel and hides it in her closet and doesn't open it until 12 years later.  The rest of the book tells about life growing up with her mother.  Her mother wasn't very kind to her and often called her names.  She was a daddy's girl and her father often would leave for weeks at a time.  Her parents had a difficult marriage and were constantly fighting, then he died when she was 11.  Throughout her life she fought with her mom who kicked her out of the house once when she was 13 and then permanently when she was 18.  I won't say much more about the book in case anybody wants to read it.  It's a pretty sad story. There is some swearing in it to forewarn everyone in case they don't want to read it.
