You're getting sleepy.....

Well nothing eventful happened last weekend. Chris and I went out to dinner with friends. We just went to TGIFridays. Nothing fancy. Every time we go out with them, they always insist on paying for us. I hate being a charity case. They get a kick out of being sneaky and paying for it before we know what has happened. His friend also gave him a Tony Parker jersey too. I didn't find out that until after we got home. Geez! Double charity case. Chris was helping him out at the golf course where his friend is the head golf pro, so I guess that was the reason for the charity, but still, you don't ask people to go out to dinner with you and then have them pay! Anyways, as always, nothing is going on with us. I decided to take a week off from reading anything because our house is really getting to be a mess and Chris is feeling super neglected because I always have my head in a book. You'd think all this reading would help me get a little smarter...... Nope! I'm still dumb as rocks! I just don't have the brain capacity to remember anything of value. :p Chris is already up to his golf habit again, the golf course isn't even open yet and he's already buying new gear! The benefit/trouble with having 2 head golf pros as friends. At least this year I managed to talk Chris into getting his own bank account for his spending. That was a miracle. I have been trying for 4 years now and finally succeeded! Thank goodness his debit card finally arrived so he can start keeping track of his own money. He's counting on that economy stimulus check from the IRS to pay for a new set of clubs. We agreed to split it between the two of us. Too bad it's not expected until May, I've already spent my allowance in advance! :p

The Other Boleyn Girl by Phillipa Greggory

I finished this yesterday. It was a really good book. It was pretty interesting from the start. It's told from the point of view of Mary Boleyn. She is the sister of Anne Boleyn, the second wife of Henry VIII. He's the king that made himself head of the Church of England so that he could grant his own divorces (or executions), to try and find a wife that could give birth to a boy. Anne basically opened a can of worms when she seduced the king into marrying her and it ended in her being beheaded. She also was the mother of Queen Elizabeth. Didn't mean to spoil anything for anybody, but it is history what ends up happening. Anyways, it starts out that Mary catches the eye of the king and when her family realizes this, they push her into becoming the kings mistress even though she is already married (at 14 years old, yuck!). Later, her sister Anne steals him from her while she is pregnant with her second child from the king. When her family realizes that Anne could marry the King they push Mary out of the way. There is sexual content, suggested incest and the brother is gay. So if you can handle it then I highly suggest it.

I heard the movie got poor reviews because apparently Scarlett Johannson (Mary) and Natalie Portman (Anne) fail to live up to the characters in the book. One review said something like Scarlett Johannson is hardly believable as naive and Natalie Portman isn't believable as a powerful seductress. I guess I'll let you know, I'm planning on seeing the movie soon. Atonement comes out on DVD on Tuesday so I'll have to watch it to let you know if it's better to read the book or just watch the movie.
