Budget Killers!

Like I mentioned in the previous post, we've had a string of bad luck this year that make us thankful to have a savings (or what's left of it). January and a new dog, brought a round of visits to the vet and last month Gus Gus had a lump on his head that was found to be benign. Unfortunately, finding that out, cost a pretty penny but a lot less if it needed to be surgically removed! Oh the joys of having pets that you love like children!

Tuesday on the way to work, a truck kicked up a giant rock and it hit my windshield. The thing was massive and left a crater the size of a child's head. Perfect timing with all the other crap we've had to pay for this year. Speaking of cars, we had to replace the alternator on Chris' car earlier this year. It's tough to decide if you should fix an old car or just get a new one. The deciding factor was not wanting to pay a $400 car payment for the next 4-5 years. Who knows what the future holds? Do we really want to be obligated to pay out and extra $400 for that long? No. As much as we want a new car, we totally don't want the car payment. It blows chunks when you have to fork out a huge chunk of change to fix a car but at least the problem is fixed (for the time being).

All of this comes when I was wanting to start the year off with renewed dedication to our budget. Doesn't that always happen?
