This is about a woman who gets one of those "Have you seen me?" cards in the mail and discovers the child on the card looks like the boy she adopted two years previous. Out of curiosity, she looks at the website the family made for the missing boy and is disturbed by the similarities to her son. As she looks into her adoption, she realizes that there are too many strange things for her to feel good about her son not being the kidnapped boy.
This book was good and I would recommend anyone read it. It raises some valid points about the situation. Extensive background checks and paperwork is completed on the adopting parent(s) and nothing done on the parent giving the child up for adoption. In this case, the child was 1 1/2 when he was adopted and the mother only had to provide a birth certificate. We hear about adoptions where the adoptive parents have the child for a while and then have to give the child back for one reason or another. That is a heart breaking situation to begin with. In this story, the woman has to make a decision on whether to keep the boy she has raised and loved for two years, or give him back to the grieving parents he was possibly kidnapped from.
