Downton Abbey

Masterpiece Classic: Downton Abbey starring Hugh Bonneville: DVD Cover

While in Virginia last month I watched this show with my sisters. This is season 1 and you can watch it instantly on Netflix. If you're a fan of Jane Austen and period piece films, this is the show for you. There were some predictable parts in the plot but of course, who cares. It's like Jane Austen, it's the same story but you can't stop reading/watching it. Along with the family drama, the show also includes the drama and shenanigans of the servants.

Plot:
The life of a wealthy family is turned upside down when the heirs to the estate die on the Titanic. The eldest daughter, Mary, was set to marry her cousin since she can't inherit the family fortune herself. Now the fortune must pass to a distant cousin who is a lawyer (gasp), and considered less than a gentleman because he has an occupation. This cousin is sent for and ends up being a handsome young man. Soon there are hopes that he and Mary will marry so that family fortune won't be completely lost to an outsider. Unfortunately, upon meeting each other, neither are impressed. You'll have to tune in to see what else happens.
